FLOPPY
Home ] Up ]

Even though many technologies have purported to replace the venerable 3.5" floppy, none of them have yet, so install one in your computer. The 5.25" floppy is dead to everyone except those who still have data laying around on them. The floppy also has to be configured with a jumper like a hard drive for master, slave, or single. And only two floppies can be installed per floppy channel. Hardware installation is much the same as a hard drive with one important exception, the floppy cable. You will note on the floppy cable that there is a twist in about 4 or six conductors of the ribbon between the two sets of connectors, this differentiates A: from B:. The floppy on the end of the cable will be A:. The two sets of connectors are so that you can attach either a 5.25" or 3.5" floppy on either set. The 3.5" floppy takes the pin socket connector, the 5.25" floppy takes the circuit card edge socket connector. Remember to tell your BIOS about your floppies.
