SERVER TOWER CASE:

A server tower case usually has a larger power supply (300 Watts or larger), has easy access side panels, and is wider, giving more depth for expansion cards and provides for many additional fans to improve air flow and cooling.  Some full tower cases do not have provisions for external 3.5" drive bays.  In order to use 3.5" devices you must buy inexpensive 5.25" to 3.5" bay converters.  This case is highly recommended.  It is heavier and larger but provides the most flexibility, upgradability, and cooling potential.

FULL TOWER CASE:

Provision for mounting one additional fan is usually located above the power supply which is usually mounted inside and closer to the top of the case.  Some full tower cases do not have provisions for external 3.5" drive bays.  In order to use 3.5" devices you must buy inexpensive 5.25" to 3.5" bay converters.  This class of case is recommended.

MID TOWER CASE:

Fewer external and internal drive bays.  Very little room for expansion and cooling.

MINI TOWER CASE:

For the ultimate in size restrictions.  Avoid this class of case.

DESKTOP CASE:

Desktop cases are Mid Towers arranged horizontally.  Avoid this class of case unless you have very limited space.
