An animation is a special form of a Graphic Interchange Format (GIF) image. A normal GIF image has one static image. The animated GIF image consists of many static images or 'frames' in a serial sequence. Each static image being just a little different than the one before it and the one after it. By slightly changing each consecutive frame, you can give the animated GIF image the appearance that it is moving.
